Liz Lundell

Liz LundellLiz Lundell is widely known in Muskoka as a freelance writer, historian, former teacher, author, journalist, broadcaster and mother. A heritage preservation activist, she was founding president of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario's Muskoka Branch and is now its Past President. She is Chair of the Muskoka Lakes Museum board, a director of the Friends of Algonquin Park and chair of their Publications Committee and is incoming president of the Leaside Skating Club.  She was a member of the Advisory Board of York University libraries from 2004-2007. From 2001-2006 she was vice- chair of the Township of Muskoka Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee. She is also a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, the Canadian Canoe Museum, the Champlain Society, Muskoka Heritage Foundation, PEN Canada, the Writer's Union of Canada. A long time cottager with her family on Lake Joseph, Liz might be called the quintessential Muskokan.

Liz was a recipient of the Award of Merit from Heritage Toronto and, in 2005, was Volunteer of the Year recipient for the Township of Muskoka Lakes.

Seven of her nine published books focus on Muskoka and Algonquin Park. She enjoys wide readership of her articles in Beyond the City Magazine, the Bracebridge Examiner and Weekender for which she has written regularly since 2004. She has also written for Focus on Muskoka, Muskoka Magazine, The Muskoka Sun, The Muskokan, the Muskoka Lakes Association Yearbook, Cottage Life Magazine, The Globe and Mail, Harrowsmith, and Muskoka Life.

Her television and radio experience includes various CBC interviews over the years, as well as interviews with CITY Pulse (Breakfast Television), Cottage Life Television, Light FM, CKWR, the Moose FM, and MORE FM.

Her teaching career includes the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), the York Region Board of Education and a year as a professor of English and Business Communication at Seneca College. She has lectured widely in Toronto and Muskoka including to the TDSB, Heritage Toronto, Wilderness Canoe Symposium, the Toronto Public Library, the Toronto Camera Club, the Muskoka Lakes Museum, the Muskoka Steamship and Historical Society, the Canadian Association of Professional Heritage Consultants, Probus Club of South Muskoka, the Muskoka Heritage Centre, the Minett Seniors and at a Muskoka Heritage Foundation Workshop. She has acted as a publishing and communications advisor to many organizations in Muskoka and has written web-based content for various businesses and local organizations.

For her ongoing and longstanding contribution to the culture and heritage of Muskoka, Liz is indeed a worthy recipient of the Robert Boyer Award.
